An Excuse for Universal Love

I’m reluctant to admit my growing appreciation for a holiday tied up in red ribbon rubbish and superficially sweetened See’s. Yet at the heart of it all, and my reason for honoring the day, is the straightforward (and profound!) message of love. With all the suggestions, reminders and last minute deals, it’s clear that people celebrate this Valentine’s Day to varying degrees. Whether it’s through the glaze of a heart shaped diamond or a mouthwatering glazed donut, there is a thoughtful intention to each gift. At least I hope the motivation for giving has most to do with the action and less with the gift… Or in the case of these contributions, has everything to do with both! There are plenty of times I have politely sprinted pass the GREEN PEACE volunteers outside the grocery store, rationalizing my fantasy donation to be better spent elsewhere.
